WA: Accessibility Workshop
The Association for the Blind of WA is the principal provider of services to people who are blind or vision impaired in Western Australia. A recent study conducted by Dr Scott Hollier has highlighted a significant gap between people with disabilities and the able-bodied population in relation to the access of computing and Internet-related technologies. As such, the Association has created an Information Technology Accessibility Workshop.
This workshop is designed to provide a wealth of resources and information through hands-on training to ensure that the technologies you use in your area are accessible to people with disabilities, whether it is your internal IT infrastructure or online web presence. There will also be an opportunity to address specific issues relating to your organisation.
SESSION 1:
- Why should we care about IT for people with disabilities?
- What is universal design?
- Explanations of usability and accessibility
- cases for accessibility: moral, legal, corporate, education
- Current ‘disability divide’ issues contributing to the divide
- importance of IT for people with disabilities
SESSION 2: IT accessibility tools and guidelines

- What is Assistive Technology?

Why it’s time to rethink & ReMix
On the frontiers of the Web, the boundaries are blurring: between developers and designers; between advertisers and publishers; between software and services; between media and technology; between TVs and PCs; between producers and consumers. The old order is getting a little mixed up.
ReMix is Microsoft’s conference for cutting-edge web professionals designing and building next-generation experiences through Silverlight.
AusWeb07
When: 30th June to 4th July
Where: Novotel Pacific Bay Resort, Charlesworth Bay, NSW - www.pacificbayresort.com.au
Cost:
- From $1,195 (includes accommodation)
- Early Bird Ends 28 May
More Details: http://ausweb.scu.edu.au
Remember the traditional AusWeb conference format provides less presentation time and more discussion time so it pays to read the papers before the conference and come along and be ready to discuss and debate the issues. We want delegates to have more time to interact.
You have a choice of three full day pre-conference workshops and three half day tutorials.
